MUSIC-221 From Bach to Bartok

Instrumental music from the eighteenth, nineteenth, and first half of the twentieth centuries with an emphasis on orchestral works by composers such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Mahler, Debussy, Stravinsky, and Bartók. Attention also given to piano and chamber works, including music by women composers. Consideration of the history and development of musical instruments and the use of instrumental classical music in popular culture (as in the films Apocalypse Now, The Shining, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Platoon).
