Concentration/Minor Description and Requirements

All enrolled students are required to participate in a physical education program for individual development. The physical education requirement is satisfied upon the completion of the following:
1. A physical fitness assessment (an aerobic, core strength, and flexibility assessment)
2. Three lifetime activity classes (one unit of intercollegiate athletics, or a wellness seminar may be substituted for one of the three required activity classes)

Lifetime activity classes may be chosen from any of the following classes (may not be offered each semester): aerobics, archery, badminton, basketball, bocce ball, cornhole, fitness, free weights, frisbee golf, golf, jogging, pickleball, power walking, racquetball, rock climbing, spikeball, skating, squash, swimming, tennis, toning, volleyball, wallyball, and yoga.

Upon completing the physical fitness assessment and successfully completing the three other parts of the requirement, a student will have met the physical education requirement. Activity classes may not be repeated for credit. Should a student be given intercollegiate credit, they will not receive credit for a similar class (i.e. a hockey player may not receive credit for taking an ice skating class).

Except under unusual circumstances, it is expected the requirement will be completed in the first three semesters of a student’s residency. Students may not study abroad or away without completing the requirement. Students with physical disabilities may enter an individual program approved by the director of physical education.
