Course Changes for Fall and Spring Semesters

A student may change (add or drop) courses during the first seven class days of the fall and spring semesters after consultation with the advisor. An add/drop form must be completed and returned to the Registrar’s Office within the seven-day period.

Classes may not be added after the deadline without permission of the Committee on Academic Standing. After the first seven class days of either semester, a student who is taking four or more courses may drop a course up to one week after midterm, after consulting with the advisor and the instructor of the course. After the drop deadline, a student may drop a course without the penalty of failure only with approval from the Committee on Academic Standing. Only extraordinary circumstances warrant the committee's approval of such a request.

Beginning with Registration for the Fall 2025 semester:
Continuing students who have been cleared by their academic advisors and are not starting their first semester at Hamilton may change (add or drop) courses during announced schedule adjustment periods before the beginning of a semester’s classes without instructor or advisor approval. After classes begin, all students may change (add or drop) courses with instructor permission by completing an online add/drop form by the end of the sixth day of classes. Advisor approval is not required during this period, but advisors will be notified of a student’s schedule change.

After the first six class days of either semester, a student who is taking four or more courses may drop a course up to the sixth Friday of the semester with approval from both their advisor and the instructor of the course. After the drop deadline, a student may drop a course without the penalty of failure only with approval from the Committee on Academic Standing. Only extraordinary circumstances warrant the committee's approval of such a request.
