Americans appear to be more divided than ever, especially when it comes to questions about identity and morality. In this seminar, we will examine how citizens’ group identities and moral convictions shape democratic politics, focusing on partisan polarization and “culture wars” in the contemporary United States.

The seminar unpacks the concept of identity, explores the origins and political consequences of group variations in moral judgments, investigates the main causes and societal consequences of partisan polarization, and delves into .  contentious cultural issues in today’s America.
