SOC-252 Introduction to Quantitative Analysis

This course advances students’ statistical literacy by introducing them to methods of quantitative social research. We cover numerical and graphical tools for examining the distributions of single variables, tools for describing the relationships between pairs of variables and the basics of statistical inference for generalizing beyond samples. Students who complete the course will be more informed, critical consumers of academic works, news accounts, and advertising materials that present quantitative evidence. Upon completion of the course, students should be able to carry out and present elementary statistical analyses data from various sources, including surveys and administrative records.
