MDRST-264 Christianity and Buddhism Compared
Examines the lives of religious practitioners (monks & nuns) and monasteries within the Christian and Buddhist traditions of the Middle Ages. Key themes: sources and methodologies, institutionalization, typology of monasteries, engagement in trade and land management. Students engage with secondary scholarly articles, and original literary, epigraphic, papyrological, art historical and archaeological sources.
