ITALN-301 Fuori di casa: Stories of Travels and Returns
This course explores the concept of "being away from home" through various representations of travels and returns in Italian literature, cinema, music, and art. In these stories of movements and border-crossing, we will reflect on the idea of "home" with shifting social and cultural perspectives across time in Italian culture from Dante to Ferrante. In their shared themes of home and belonging, exile and border-crossing, these stories will guide us in understanding Italy and Italian as we know today, while helping us find home in a culture and in a language that is not our own.
