HIST-106 Great Migrations: Race and Migration in US History

This course places narratives of migration, enslavement, and exile at the center of United States history. Taking as its reference point the history of the "Great Migration" of African Americans from the rural South to Northern cities in the early-to-mid-twentieth century, the course explores migration in many forms throughout US history. In addition to examining a wide range of secondary and primary source material, students will be trained to collect oral histories that will offer insight into the history of migration in their own communities and at Hamilton.
