DANCE-202 Gut Feelings: Thinking with the Body

This course combines physical practice and interdisciplinary theory to investigate connections between movement and creativity. Through embodied and critical research we ask: what is the role of body and movement in the creation of ideas, artwork and text? We explore the history of ‘mind over matter’ as a moral ideal and examine the work of artists and thinkers generating alternate forms of engaging bodies. This class draws from queer theory, anti-colonial studies, interdisciplinary art and movement practices, performance studies, disability studies, and contemporary neuroplasticity research. Coursework facilitates development of a personal movement practice and interdisciplinary research project. No prior dance or movement experience is necessary
