CHNSE-434 Women in Chinese Literature and Film

This course focuses on the representation of women and the constitution of gender in Chinese literature and film. Texts range from philosophical texts, poetry, drama, fiction, and film from the Ming Dynasty up until now. We will address the issue of women as they writer about themselves and as others represent them in terms of womanhood, sexuality, feminism, social class, and material culture.
