CHNSE-169 Psychology of Language Learning
It takes years or even decades to master a foreign language. What inspires language learners at the outset? How do they build and sustain their learning motivation? What do they gain through this learning process in addition to their language abilities? Understanding language learners’ motivation and anxiety is crucial to effectively learn and teach foreign languages. This course introduces the most influential theoretical frameworks and research directions on learner motivation in the areas of Second Language Acquisition and Psychology of Language Learning. Students will engage in readings, lectures, discussions, language class observations, presentations and a final project.
