CHEM-363 Science of Scent

Most commercial perfumes contain a fascinating blend of natural and synthetic organic molecules, many with creative fantasy for odors, and molecular structures. The first half of the course will introduce the natural and synthetic pathways of common scent molecules, with the second half allowing students to investigate a commercial perfume of choice, learning the fragrance chemistry behind the ingredients, and dive into scientific literature to learn the process behind its commercial production.
