ARTH-109 Good Looking

“Good looking” invites you to see the world around you differently. Contrary to what many might think, looking is a learned activity – one that can either be taken for granted or be exercised, enhanced, improved. Through a variety of activities, from field trips to Hamilton’s observatory, hockey rink, and Root Glen to cross-disciplinary conversations with biologists, artists, and technologists who support the visually impaired, we’ll pursue a practice of looking that’s slow, considered, immersive, and sometimes even unnatural. This class will challenge you to think more deeply about anything and everything you can see, and some things you can’t. Good looking, in other words, is a liberal art.
