ARCH-253 Archaeology in Popular Culture

This course will introduce students to current studies to archaeology in popular culture, including the field of archaeogaming. The purpose of this course is to provide in-depth knowledge about the translation and presentation of archaeology (and the past) within various types of modern media, including video games, movies, tv shows, comics, and podcasts. This course will help students advance their knowledge about how archaeology, cultural heritage, and conceptions of the past are understood and presented within popular media as a form of public archaeology. It will address themes and changes over time in popular representations of archaeology (yes, we will cover Indiana Jones).
