ANTHR-348 Anthropology of Audiovisual Entertainment

This course explores how narratives and identities are constructed, mediated, and consumed through a combination of sound and image in audiovisual entertainment such as anime, cartoons, and video games. Drawing on anthropology, media studies, performance studies, and sociolinguistics, we will explore audiovisual entertainment not merely as a leisure consumption but as the means through which creative workers and fan-viewers co-operatively construe and (re)imagine social relations.
