Study Prior to Matriculation at Hamilton

High School students who have participated in Dual-Enrollment programs or who take college-level courses while enrolled in high school will not receive credit for the work they have done in those programs, but may receive advancement in an area of study on the basis of that work.

Evaluation of Credit for Transfer Students
The College is interested in students who wish to transfer to Hamilton after enrolling at other institutions of higher education. As such, the work completed prior to matriculation at Hamilton will be evaluated when a student is accepted so that they may make informed decisions regarding transfer to the College. Once the transcript has been evaluated, the registrar will send the transfer student a statement of accepted courses and an estimate of the Hamilton credit equivalency, and upon matriculation will enter the courses on the student’s Hamilton record. Transfer students must complete at least half of their undergraduate program at Hamilton to receive a Hamilton College degree.

The registrar will assign a transfer student a class year based on the number of credits accepted for transfer. A transfer student is governed by the academic regulations that pertain to the class in which they have been placed. All transfer students must consult with the Physical Education Department regarding completion of the physical education requirement. If awarded junior standing, a transfer student must declare a concentration upon matriculation. Courses taken elsewhere may be counted toward the concentration if approved by the appropriate Department Chair/Program Director.
