WMGST-432 Philosophy of Gender: Sex and Gender Roles

A critical examination, from a philosophical standpoint, of traditional Western (or Global North) conceptions of gender and sex categories. Some of the main goals of this philosophical critique are (1) to uncover the ways in which these traditional conceptions have perpetuated forms of oppression such as misogyny, homophobia, and transphobia; (2) to foreground the various gender and sex identities silenced by traditional views; and (3) to contrast these views with some non-Western (or Global South) views on gender and sex categories.
