WMGST-309 Colonialism in Africa: Race, Gender, Resistance

Intersectional, multidisciplinary, feminist analysis of issues related to women, gender, and race in Africa. The course includes multidisciplinary academic literature, ethnography, fiction, and primary archival sources and asks students to examine power structures of institutionalized, systemic forms of historical and contemporary oppression and resistance. The course facilitates an in-depth analysis of European colonialism in Africa, and links colonial histories to contemporary social challenges.
