RSNST-386 Realism, Liberalism, and Leadership in International Relations

In this course, we will explore three sets of topics. First, we will examine scholarship related to realism, liberalism, and the role of leaders in foreign policy decision-making. Second, we will study principles of empirical analysis and research design that are utilized widely across the social sciences. And third, we will then use those research methods to evaluate realist, liberal, and leader-centric theories against case material provided by the life history of Vladimir Putin, Russian-American relations, and several of the wars that Russia has been involved in during the Putin presidency.
