RELST-271 Mother Nature—Climate Crisis—Jainism
How have people in India understood and interacted with mother nature? How do they conceptualize the environment and ecosystems? How do they deal with climate change and ecological disasters? What role does religion play in shaping human attitude to the mother nature? Focusing on Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, the course examines how Indian communities have engaged and negotiated their relationships with the natural world to consider themes including the conception of environment as sacred space, ethical living, non-violence, animal-protection, and food-culture.
