PPOL-238 The Politics of Asylum

Introductory survey of topics surrounding asylum in comparative perspective. Analysis of contemporary issues surrounding displacement and humanitarian protections including but not limited to human rights conventions, refugee resettlement and camps, irregular migration, the politicization of refugees, political discourse and securitization, offshore processing, and climate displacement. Case study of refugee producers and hosts such as the United States, the European Union, Venezuela, Syria, Australia, Palestine, Kenya, Turkey, South Korea, and Myanmar.
