MEIWS-246 Collecting India

This seminar examines the collection, use, interpretation, and display of South Asian art in North American and European museums. Students will study the art historical and cultural significance of a range of case studies in museum collections and examine related discourses on value, authenticity, repatriation, and aesthetic colonialism. Discussions will draw on current curatorial perspectives and recent developments in provenance research and ethical collecting practices.
