LIT-459 Seminar: TransAtlantic Romanticisms
Romanticism is less a specific time period than it is a set of often contradictory ideas about the self and its relation to the natural world, culture, and nation. We'll look at a few influential texts by Wordsworth and other late-18th C European writers, and then navigate an exploration of other later "romantic" writers on both sides of the Atlantic. The course ends with a careful study of Melville's Moby Dick. Students in the class will select many of the other texts for study.
