LIT-336 Experimental Women Writers

This course examines experimental women prose writers of the 20th and 21st centuries. We will consider how historical and cultural forces shape novels and stories by women who are committed to writing counter to tradition. Readings will include work by such authors as Gertrude Stein, Virginia Woolf, Zora Neale Hurston, Marguerite Duras, Kathy Acker, Jeanette Winterson, Carole Maso, Maggie Nelson, Claudia Rankine, Karen Yamashita, and others. We will engage these readings, in part, by creating our own critical experiments.
