LIT-214 Style: A Writer's Bootcamp
Style has power; the goal of this course is to help you harness that power. Psychology research has shown that attractive people are assumed to be more intelligent and skilled; so too is elegant prose deemed more intelligent and persuasive. This quarter credit course explicitly considers and cultivates style. What is stylistically effective in literary criticism and why? In other modes of writing? How can we develop an effective style of our own? This workshop is divided between the analysis of sample texts and hands-on revision.
