HSPST-151 Spanish for Heritage/Native Speakers

Designed to improve the writing skills of heritage or native speakers with intense emphasis on grammar. The course addresses the specific needs of students who acquired Spanish as a first language, but who have not had extensive formal instruction, seeking to develop writing skills through an array of formats including argumentative compositions, descriptive essays, creative narration, newspaper articles, reviews, among others. Attention will be paid to editing and revision. Students will also refine oral expression through formal presentations and in-class discussion.

Prerequisite

Grade of C or better in HSPST-130 or HSPST-135, or placement exam, or consent of instructor. Not open to students to have taken HSPST-140 or HSPST-150.

Notes

Three hours of class, with an additional weekly hour of conversation with a student Teaching Assistant. Taught in Spanish.
