HIST-219 American Jewish History

This course covers significant themes and developments in American Jewish life from the colonial period to the present. Together, we will focus on historic Jewish social, political, religious, and cultural patterns and how they account for the character of American Jewish life today. We will also explore the evolving relationship between Jews and American culture. Finally, we will engage with important historiographic debates in the field of American Jewish Studies. Careful examination of primary sources will further each of these classroom goals.
