HIST-202 After Rome / Before Europe

Surveys the history of western Eurasia from c. 400–1000 CE, exploring the states and societies that developed in the wake of the collapse of the western Roman Empire and the formation of a vast new Muslim caliphate stretching from the Iberian peninsula deep into central Asia. The cast of characters will include: Attila the Hun, St. Augustine, Brian Boru, Basil the Bulgar Slayer, Charlemagne, Hypatia, Harald Bluetooth, the prophet Muhammad, Olga of Kiev, and many more.
