HIST-186 History Workshop: Paleography

Provides students with tools for paleographic analysis and transcription. Students learn the history of various writing systems and practices and the long history of the book in the creation and transmission of knowledge. Using canonical materials from special collections and archives, students will read old handwriting and make a scholarly transcription of an original source. Students will make use of period dictionaries and scholarly aids suitable to your own research. This session is particularly key for students interested in premodern topics.
