GOVT-391 US-Africa Relations

The course examines US- Africa relations primarily through policy issues such as foreign aid, conflict management, democracy promotion, immigration, defense/anti-terrorism, environment and immigration. The course also discusses the influence of colonialism, the construction and propagation of American images of Africa, ideology, the various actors, institutions (African-Americans, African diaspora/ Presidency/Congress) and instruments on US- Africa relations. The course will cover issues and debates in US – Africa relations from 1960-present.
