GOVT-341 Campaigns, Elections, and American Democracy

This course provides an overview of research on American campaigns and elections spanning the past half-century. We begin by examining elections in theory - focusing on research on electoral history, the role of political parties, and voter decision-making. The latter section of the course transitions to examining elections in practice - looking at research that analyzes key aspects of contemporary elections such as fundraising, campaign advertising, and voter mobilization.
