GEOSC-223 The Critical Zone
This course explores the science behind the critical zone, the dynamic zone at earth’s surface that extends from the base of weathered bedrock to the top of the vegetation canopy and encompasses the intersection of rock, soil, water, air, and life. Throughout this course, we will investigate the complex processes that drive the movement of materials through our environment and shape ecosystems and human societies. Examples of topics include soils and soil formation, nutrient cycling, and rock-climate interactions.
