FRNCH-250 Exploring Contemporary France: Current Events
Exploration of selected trends and current events in the larger context of France’s historical, geopolitical and sociopolitical forces. The course alternates readings from a conventional textbook and various media covering current events. It makes use of text, images and sound. Topics include geopolitics; youth cultures; social, national and religious identities, labor laws, and the environment. There will be room to integrate debates likely to arise during the semester, especially around the presidential elections. Engaged participation in class discussion expected. Short written and oral assignments and a longer multi-media final research paper/presentation.
