ENVST-223 Moral Power: The Ethics of Renewable Energy
As the world accelerates toward renewable energy, critical ethical questions arise about the ethical trade-offs required for the energy transition and the power dynamics behind shifting to clean energy. This course explores the philosophical and ethical dimensions of renewable energy, focusing on the moral trade-offs embedded in the pursuit of a "just" energy future. Students will engage a range of issues including unseen costs of resource extraction for renewable technologies, the unequal distribution of energy access, the power structures in global energy markets, green colonialism, and the obligations of individuals, corporations, and states in shaping a sustainable future.
