CHNSE-446 Understanding Taiwan through Film

This course is an advanced-level Chinese language and Chinese-speaking culture course. It explores the complex cinematic depictions of Taiwan’s history, politics, and culture across the greater Chinese-speaking world. At the same time, it provides advanced-level Chinese language training. Through this dual focus, students will gain a nuanced perspective on Taiwan’s role in shaping cinematic narratives while gaining the language proficiency needed to participate fluently in discussions on both familiar and abstract topics, present structured arguments, and articulate in-depth analyses and sophisticated ideas in Chinese.
