ASNST-348 Three Jewels and the Tree: Buddhist Art History

This speaking-intensive seminar examines the rich and diverse art and architectural history of Buddhism, from its rise and development in South Asia to its growth and transformation across East and Southeast Asia. Case studies are selected from the third century BCE to the present, with an emphasis on understanding developments in the conservation, repair, and digital preservation of Buddhist sites and cultural heritage. Students will conduct a semester-long study of a site, image, or manuscript and produce a virtual reconstruction to showcase their research.
