ASNST-208 Asian Temples in a Digital World
Students examine three aspects of Asian religions: religious object, temple as built space, and ritual practice as intentional use of objects and space; conduct research on an Asian temple of their choosing; and produce a web-based exhibition of the history of and ritual practices conducted in their temple. Two-day trip to NYC to visit Taoist and Buddhist temples and exhibitions of the material culture of Asian religions at the MET and Rubin museums. Instruction in digital tools of collecting, analyzing, and representing materials in a web-based exhibition. Writing assignments include short essays and a final research project of the student’s design to be presented with text and images in digital form.
