ANTHR-270 The Ethnography of Communication

This course introduces students to the study of communication in social and cultural context. With a focus on ethnographic cases of naturally-occurring conversations, we will explore how individuals cooperatively construct various social identities and maintain social relations through finite communicative strategies such as turn-design, hearsay, back-channeling, and gestures.
