LIT-235 Curating Prison Witness

We will read a broad survey of incarcerated 20th and 21-first century writers. Books or selections by Jack London, Malcolm X, George Jackson, Angela Davis, Assata Shakur, etc.); readings will prepare students to work in groups in The American Prison Writing Archive, where they will glean subject-matter threads of their own devising. Students will curate multiple collections of subject-related essays and excerpts, framed by research in secondary literature. Curated collections will be made available in the digital holdings of Burke Library and potentially in other venues. Individual essays and regular group presentations required.
