GOVT-256 Nuclear Politics
Why do some states seek to acquire nuclear weapons, while others do not? Do nuclear weapons make war more or less likely? Is the "taboo" that has restricted their use eroding? Is nuclear disarmament possible, or desirable? This class will tackle these and other questions related to the politics and ethics of nuclear weapons. The aim is to provide students with the background and analytical skills necessary to evaluate competing arguments about the development, spread, and use of nuclear weapons, and to enable them to become more politically engaged on issues related to nuclear security.
