BIO-260 Geomicrobiology

Interaction of microbes and minerals from early in Earth’s history to the present day. Emphasis on the diversity of microbes, their metabolic strategies and their habitats, mineral biogenesis and dissolution, and the roles that microorganisms play in geochemical cycles. Special topics will include geochemical influences on microbial evolution and community structure, life in extreme environments, and the role of geomicrobiology in the restoration of contaminated environments.
