ARCH-375 Museum Studies

Collections play a major role in hands-on and experiential learning, providing powerful tools for connecting the past and present. In this course, students will explore best practices in the curation and management of teaching and educational collections through readings and consultations with museums' professionals. The course centers around hands-on projects where students will explore the role of museums and object-based learning in higher education through the anthropology/archaeology teaching collections. We will engage with the history of collecting, the concept of the museum, and the responsibilities and challenges we face today to properly care for and use collections to educate, connect, and generate new knowledge.
