WMGST-407 Gender, Sexuality and Feminism in South Asia

This course explores the intersections of gender and sexuality with caste, class, religion and race/ethnicity in South Asia. Through ethnographies, films and memoirs, this seminar will examine processes and structures of nationalism, development, colonialism and militarism in relation to topics such as kinship, desire, life-cycle, masculinity, non-normative gender expressions, education, urban and rural life, and diasporic movements, through feminist theory and practice.
