WMGST-328 Trans* Studies and Politics of the Body

This course introduces students to the central issues of transgender studies and familiarizes them with emergent work in the field, including work that draws on critical methodologies developed in other fields. Students will learn how trans* embodiments are inflected by race, class, gender, and location, and will gain an understanding of the fields of power in which these embodiments and claims to identity take shape. Students will also engage how transgender studies, as a field, moves us both through and beyond personal narratives of medical and social sex/gender transition.
