RELST-251 Apocalypse Now and Then

The end of the world has always been with us. In ancient Hebrew literature, apocalypse was a literary genre that was intended to get people to change their ways. In contemporary media, from television and film to graphic novels, it becomes a trope that signals the end of the world, imaged in grand cataclysmic fashion, and aided by computerized graphics. Through films, literature, sacred texts, and special collections in the library, students will survey the range of media of apocalypse, and will ask questions about why the world seems to always be ending.
