PSYCH-349 Parenting

Conceptual and methodological exploration of the psychology of parenting and parent-child relationships. This course will focus on questions of how individuals come to display specific patterns of parenting behavior and what factors influence the parenting experience. Topics will include frameworks for conceptualizing parenting and parenting competence, the role of the child in the parent-child relationship, parent personality and psychopathology, social and cultural influences on parenting, historically understudied parents (e.g., fathers, LGBT parents), and parent training interventions.
