JAPN-298 Field Study in Japan: Place, Memory, and Empathy

Focusing on Japan as a point of reference, this spring recess field study will consider how the notion of "place" gets constructed through human emotions. Students will take basic language and culture sessions at Doshisha Univ in Kyoto, as well as visit locations of historical, cultural, or political significances in Kyoto and Hiroshima. After the trip, students will upload to a digital archive the stories of the places they studied. Concurrent registration in JAPN260 required. A quarter credit course.
