HSPST-251 Intersectional Latin America

This course employs an interdisciplinary approach to explore the intersectionality of Latin American literature and cultures, taking into account alternative forms of literature and the production of minority groups, emphasizing subaltern studies, gender, race, and queer representation. We consider testimonial literature, short stories, graphic novels, film, photography, painting, graffiti, podcasts and music.  The course provides an overview of Latin American history and contemporary popular and folk culture, the transition between dictatorship and democracy, the situation of indigenous people, women in society, and current events.
