How have the medieval Crusades been remembered across historical, literary, and visual media from the Middle Ages to the present day? How did the views of the Crusades change over time in both Europe and the Middle East? Stretching from the beginning with the historiographers who accompanied the First Crusade and the knightly romances that followed, through the Enlightenment and colonialism, to the present, the courses allows examination of the intersection of the past and society’s view of it.
