GOVT-345 Religion and Terrorism

This course examines the relationship (or lack of a relationship) between religion and terrorism. In the class, we will review definitions of terrorism and investigate the ideologies, goals, and tactics of organizations that have been labeled terrorist organizations from the IRA in Ireland and Aum Shinrikyo in Japan to the transnational al-Qaeda and Daesh groups. The class will also cover women and terror and counterterror measures pursued by non-Western states.
